Key to success, Key to the future, Key to the past, Key to those handcuffs… I think today, on this Sunday about all the keys I have held in my life, physically and metaphorically.
Keys are handed down to us most of the time…or taken. Nas’ “I Gave You Power” is a story told in the viewpoint of a gun. One of my favorite tracks to get deep with. I think of the viewpoint of a Key. It finds itself most likely in your pocket, chillin with some lint and other bullshit. I think of the respect Punkers used to give their keys and/or wallet; They’d hang them on a chain for all to see, this is mine…it is safe. Shit…the Key can even be your method of applying “Scratchiti.” Its your written words left behind in a society that sometimes wont hear you out. Keys unlock opportunities AND close doors when we are done with a space we dont want to be in anymore. There’s a few sayings we use:
“Lock it up and throw away the key”
“Stick that key where the sun don’t shine”
Keys should be highly respected because any wrong use and a spot or opportunity can blow up REAL quick. Keys separate the men from the boys. IZ The WIZ (R.i.p) said “When the toys are in bed snuggling their pillows, we come down here and just paint.”

Let me wrap this up… Keys, respect them. Keys are opportunities, chances, freedom, success, presents, loneliness, security, safety, confinement, challenges, adventures, goals, journeys, friendships, breakups, losses, hate, jealousy, new beginnings, old flames that burn out, but remember, Always remember… Keys are MEMORIES.
Happy Sunday. Shout out to Truenoys for the “Golden Sound.”
